1. Scope

This policy explains what the Kana Lens extension and website collect, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It applies to everyone who installs the extension or visits kanalens.com. For anything not covered here, email mojimoejp@gmail.com.

3. How screen capture actually works

This is the part people worry about, so it is worth being exact. Kana Lens captures nothing until you press the shortcut or click the toolbar icon. When you do, only the rectangle you drag is captured — not the full page, not other tabs, not your desktop. That image is sent over TLS to our recognition provider, converted to text, and discarded. We do not store the image, and it is not used to train any model. The recognised text and the translation are returned to your browser. If you press Save, the entry and the sentence it came from are stored in your account so they can sync; if you do not, nothing about that capture is retained beyond an anonymous "one capture happened" counter.

Kana Lens does not read pages you are not capturing, does not log your browsing history, does not inject ads or affiliate links, and does not track you across sites. Product analytics run only on the study new tab — never on the overlay, and never on the websites you capture from.

4. What we do not collect

✕Your browsing history, or the content of pages you are not actively capturing.
✕Full-page or full-screen captures — only the rectangle you drag.
✕Keystrokes, form inputs, passwords or clipboard contents. Inputs on the study tab are masked in session replay.
✕Advertising identifiers, or any cross-site tracking profile.
✕Precise location. We infer only the country your billing address is in, for tax.

5. Legal bases (EEA and UK)

We process your account data and study list to perform our contract with you. We process billing records to comply with tax and accounting law. We process new-tab product analytics under our legitimate interest in keeping the extension usable, and you can switch them off in Settings. Where we ask for consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

6. Who we share data with

We never sell personal data. We share the minimum necessary with these processors:

Payment processor
Takes payment, stores your card, issues receipts and refunds. Receives your email and billing country; never your study data.
Recognition provider
Converts the selected image region into text. Receives the image for the duration of the request, under a contract forbidding retention and training.
Cloud hosting
Runs our servers and stores your account and study list, encrypted at rest.
Email provider
Sends account, trial and billing emails. Receives your email address only.
PostHog
Records how you use the study new tab (events and session replay of that page). Does not receive captures, page content from other sites, or the overlay. You can turn this off in Settings.

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect our rights — and we will tell you unless legally forbidden. If the business is sold, your data moves with it under this same policy.

7. International transfers

Our servers and processors are located in the European Union and the United States. Transfers out of the EEA and UK rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum. A copy of the relevant clauses is available on request.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2 or better and at rest with AES-256. Access to production data is limited to staff who need it, protected by two-factor authentication, and logged. Card details never touch our servers — our payment processor handles them directly. If a breach affects your data we will notify you and the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.

9. Your rights

You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, or export your study list in a portable format. Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the LGPD and the CCPA/CPRA you also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights — the free tier is the same whether or not you have made a request. Email mojimoejp@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. You can delete your account yourself from Settings; that erases your study list and account record within 30 days, apart from billing records we must keep for tax purposes.

10. Cookies and local storage

The extension uses Chrome's local storage to keep your session and your study list available offline. The website uses one essential cookie for sign-in and, if you consent, one analytics cookie. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

11. Children

Kana Lens is not directed at children under 13. If we learn we hold data from a child under 13 without parental consent, we delete it. A parent or guardian can contact us at mojimoejp@gmail.com.

12. Chrome Web Store disclosure

As required by the Chrome Web Store's Limited Use policy: Kana Lens uses the data it collects only to provide and improve the features described in the store listing. We do not transfer that data to third parties except to the processors listed above, do not use it for advertising, and do not allow humans to read it except with your explicit permission for support, for security, or where the law requires. Session replay of the study tab is reviewed only to fix product problems.

13. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change we will email you and show a notice in the extension before it takes effect. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
