Kana Lens ("Kana Lens", "we", "us") operates the Kana Lens browser extension and the website at kanalens.com (together, the "Service"). You can reach us at mojimoejp@gmail.com for any question about these terms.
By installing the extension, creating an account, or starting a subscription you accept these terms. If you do not agree, uninstall the extension and stop using the Service. If you are using Kana Lens on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind that organisation.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Kana Lens, and at least 16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms and be responsible for any payment.
Kana Lens recognises Japanese text in a screen region you select, shows a translation and a per-character breakdown, and lets you save entries to a personal study list that you can review. Recognition and translation are produced by automated systems and are frequently imperfect, particularly with handwriting, stylised type, low resolution, or vertical text. Kana Lens is a study aid. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or contractual translation.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at mojimoejp@gmail.com if you believe your account has been compromised. One account is for one person; do not share credentials.
New subscribers get seven days of Pro at no charge. We verify your payment method at signup but charge nothing until the trial ends, and we email you two days before the first charge. Cancel at any point during the trial and you pay nothing. One trial per person; we may refuse a trial to accounts that appear to be duplicates.
Cancel from Subscription inside the extension, or by emailing mojimoejp@gmail.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for — you keep Pro until then. Your saved kanji, sentences and statistics are not deleted when you cancel; the free tier limits which of them you can review until you resubscribe. Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy.
You agree not to:
The screen regions you capture, the entries you save and the notes you add are yours. You grant us only the narrow licence needed to run the Service for you: to process a capture in order to return a result, and to store your study list so it syncs to your devices. We do not use your captures to train models, and we do not sell them — our Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is processed and for how long. You are responsible for having the right to capture the material you point Kana Lens at.
The extension, the website, the Kana Lens name and the logo belong to us. We grant you a personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the extension for your own study. You may not copy, resell, decompile or create derivative works from it, except to the extent that applicable law says you may. Dictionary data is used under the licences of its respective sources, credited in the extension.
Kana Lens relies on Google Chrome, our payment processor, and cloud recognition and translation providers. Their availability is outside our control, and their own terms apply to their part of the transaction. Kana Lens is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google.
We improve, change and occasionally retire features. If we change the price of your plan we will email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and you may cancel before then and not be charged the new price. If we discontinue the Service entirely we will give you at least 30 days' notice, refund the unused portion of any prepaid term, and provide an export of your study list.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that we reasonably believe is being used unlawfully, or whose payments are fraudulent or repeatedly reversed. Where it is reasonable to do so we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close your account without cause, we refund the unused portion of your term.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that recognition or translation will be accurate, that the Service will be uninterrupted, or that it will meet a specific learning goal. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death, personal injury or fraud.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or lost data. Our total liability arising out of the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or $50 USD.
You agree to indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your use of the Service in breach of these terms or of applicable law, including claims about material you captured without the right to do so.
These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil, and the courts of São Paulo, Brazil have exclusive jurisdiction — except that if you are a consumer, you keep the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence and to rely on the consumer-protection law there. Please email us first: most disputes are resolved faster that way.
We may update these terms. For material changes we will email you and show a notice in the extension at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the new terms. Previous versions are available on request.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy, are the whole agreement between us. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a right immediately does not waive it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours as part of a merger or sale of the business, on notice to you.
